Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (Fortissimo Edition) vs Genei Ibunroku #FE (Fortissimo Edition)

I did a extensive review of Genei Ibunroku #FE, so i don’t think it’s needed to make another one for Tokyo Mirage Sessions unless i see some big changes aside of changing some costumes, so, what i’m going to do is compare the Japanese an European (i think the American one is the same aside of a different shaped box) Fortissimo Edition of the game. So let’s start checking the European version…

Different special editions, all using the same kind of boxes

As you can see, Nintendo has used once again the same type of boxes for the special edition of their games…

Fortune Entertainment visits the hot springs! (Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE))

We expected that some content would be cut or altered in Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE… and certainly Nintendo didn’t fail this prediction ^_^u. It’s pretty much 100% confirmed that the DLC in which the stars of Fortuna Entertainment pay a visit to the hot springs has been completely cut from the game (and the swimwear included with it, of course), so… here you have it!

Taking a look to the Special edition of Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 (Super Famicom)

“Fire Emblem Thracia: 776” for the Super Famicom is a rather curios game. At first, in the second half of 1999, it was released for the “Nintendo Power” system, this system was a machine in which you could insert your “SF Memory Casette” (this is an empty cartridge in which you can record games), select which games you wanted, pay the price… and the machine would record the game in the empty cartridge (you can even save multiple games in a single cartridge if they fit within the room available). Some months later, at the beginning of the 2000, Nintendo released the games in stores in 2 versions, the usual one (with its, box, instruction, cartridge) and a special one, that it’s the one i’m going to show now… but first something to take in consideration, the Nintendo 64 was released in 96, DreamCast in 98, PlayStation 2 in the 2000 and GameCube in 2001… but somehow Nintendo released a SuperFamicom game in some shape in 99 and properly in the 2000, just 3 or 4 months prior to the launch of PlayStation 2 ^_^u…

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE / Genei Ibunroku #FE Review (3rd part)

Ok, let´s go with the final part of my review in which *i think* i take care of the more important points of the game!
What can you tell me about the combats?

Well, they use a somewhat peculiar turn-based system… they work quite similarly to the Shin Megami Tensei IV system (and I suspect that the other SMT, but I haven’t played them) with some Fire Emblem elements (like the triangle of weapons,  sword> axe> spear> sword) and some other variations. Your team consists of 3 characters, Itsuki and 2 other characters that can be changed at any time, even it the middle of a battle with no apparent penalty. Each character is set to some kind of Fire Emblem class (Lord, dark mage, social knight, general, etc.), enemies can usually be identified with a Fire Emblem class, but there are also weird monsters.

Changing character

In our turn we can change a character for any other character that is not active, except Itsuki who always have to be present (He’s a Lord, and just like the Lords in Fire Emblem they have to be present in all the missions!)

Paladin, Dark Knight and General, from left to right.

If i remember right, a Paladin to the left, a Dark Knight at the center and a General to the right. There are also plenty of weird monsters that don’t belong to any Fire Emblem class

In combat, your character is presented with the following options, normal attack, defend, escape, planification, change character and special abilities (magic, invoke the Mirage, special attacks), you can attack normally and use the standard tactic for battles as in any other RPG… and sooner rather than later we will see the “Game Over” screen. Here the battles are won by identifying the weaknesses of your enemies (a enemy can be weak or resistant to many elements, like fire, dragon or axe) and exploiting them to the fullest, the reason is that aside of causing more damage than usually, your partners will attack automatically the enemy (this would require a long explanation that I won’t be doing), at first only some members of your active party will join the attack, but eventually even the non active members will join the attack creating long chains of attacks. The idea is to always try to create chains of attack and not give the slightest chance the enemy… because they will do exactly the same to you!.

Toma has used a fire attack to which the enemy is weak, now some other characters will join the attack creating a chain.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE / Genei Ibunroku #FE Review (2nd part)

vlcsnap-2016-04-15-01h06m29s181

The second part has arrived… and we are still 2 or 3 parts short of completing it! ^_^U. If you understand Spanish you might as well want to read the complete 2 parts review that is already available.

Whose are the the main characters?

Itsuki: He’s the main protagonist, he gets some acting, dance, sing, etc. classes, but he really acts as support for the other characters, kind of like a manager. The boy is clever, but he’s a little bit dense at times. His Mirage is the Lord Chrom.

Itsuki

Tsubasa: Friend of Itsuki who wants to be a singer like her idol, Kiria. She’s A little awkward, but very nice, cute and a little bit clumsy, but when she gets the hand of things no one can stop her. Her Mirage is Shiida, the pegasus knight.

Tsubasa

Toma: Good old friend Itsuki and Tsubasa, he would love to be the hero of a sentai series (similar to the Power Rangers). When the game begins, he’s already a Mirage Master, his Mirage is the Social Knight Cain.

Toma

Kiria: She is the most popular singer at the time, being at the top of all the charts. A “Cool beauty”, cold and distant at first glance, but she loves cute things. Alongside her Mirage, Tharja the Dark Mage, she’s been kicking ass and taking names for some years now with the Mirage incidents.

Kiria

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE / Genei Ibunroku #FE Review (1st part)

First of all, as you can suspect, my native language isn’t English, so there is bound to be plenty of mistakes in the text, sorry!. If you don’t understand something, don’t hesitate to ask ;). The Spanish version is a two part review, since it will take me more time to translate, probably the English review will take 3 or 4 parts, I’m really sorry (again) for the inconvenient!

In 2013, Nintendo dropped a bomb in a Nintendo Direct… Fire Emblem x Shin Megami Tenseiwould appear on Wii U. In the short video we could only see multiple characters from Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei (with their classic artworks, no new material ), hinting that something evil was behind. They didn’t show anything about the game (they did not have nothing to show to begin with!), but the tone was already set, something more sinister than what we usually see in the FE games.

First 2013, and the 2014 flied by with no news, but plenty of rumors that the project had already being scrapped… and then, in April 1st, 2015… the game finally showed up in a Nintendo Direct… and we couldn’t believe what we were watching; students, girls singing, cheerful atmosphere… and there was no evident sign of any element of FE or SMT in the game, It was exactly the opposite of what we imagined!.

Finally, the game was released in the Japan the 26th of December (not exactly the best date if you ask me).

So, let’s start and take a look to the game!
